In response to changing housing energy policy, new homes at Croxley View are being deigned to be 100% electric. But how do we ensure that the new residents are not penalised through high domestic energy bills?
As part of the stage 3 design process Black have worked closely with the sustainability consultant Etude and MEP engineers at RTKA to develop low carbon proposals that will not impact on the finances of residents in the new social and affordable housing scheme that is being developed. High performance envelope specifications, simplified forms, dual aspect layouts and the correct glazing to solid rations offer passive benefits that allow low energy heating and MVHR systems to efficiently operate.
The design process places as much weight on issues around fuel poverty as it does on compliance with energy targets set beyond building regulations. The analysis undertaken has enabled this balance to be struck and allow cost effective proposals to be embedded in the planning consent.
