A second planning consent has been granted at the Batchworth Waste and Recycling Depot in Rickmansworth, providing industrial workshop space for the repair of the commercial vehicle fleet.
The workshop is sited on land previously occupied by the dilapidated depot offices which were replaced with a low carbon modular building designed by Black. Three Rivers District Council described the building as the council’s most environmentally friendly building when it opened, due to a variety of design advances and introduction of low carbon technology, a mix of air source heat pumps and radiant panels combined with high levels of insulation to keep the building warm.
The wider environment along the Colne River edge has been enhanced with bird boxes, otter holts and insect hotels created from log piles around the perimeter of the site. New fruit trees also encourage a wider range of species to visit the site.
