Watford Borough Council planning committee have unanimously granted consent to proposals for a 100% social rent housing scheme on the site of the former Centrepoint Community Centre.
The scheme has evolved as part of the elected Mayors manifesto commitment to deliver social housing into a mixed-use development that serves the wider community. Ground floor space is provided for a new community hub located in two interlinked flexible rooms and is supported with a separate retail space. These new civic functions address the main road into the estate and allow the new homes to face onto a sheltered courtyard.
Construction will commence in the New Year following a tender with contractors on the Watford Community Housing Trust framework.
