For this month’s Friday Fix Black Architecture headed over to the Building Centre on Store Street to the exhibition focusing on new approaches to building, an approach that respects geography, ecology, people and place.
A selection of innovative materials are presented in a library highlighting the range of products that can support a bio-regional economy, rather than the current ‘carbon-heavy’ standards that currently purvey the built environment sector. Implementing the move to low carbon, local materials, requires a shift in approach by clients, insurers, funders and their agents who influence the decisions being made, as much as the design teams who will be specifying the products.
The visit also allowed the team to see the Max Fordham exhibition. The two practices collaborated on the Green Man Community Hub in Lewisham implementing many of the low carbon conditioning principles depicted on the exhibition walls.
