Public consultation has brought the housing association and local residents together on this controversial backlands development site allowing a social housing scheme to be consented under delegated powers.
Initially conceived as general needs apartments within a wider site regeneration that included a new scout hut for the local community, this project has evolved through input from the Mayor of Watford, councillors and local residents into a social housing success. Four family homes in a short terrace provide three bedroom houses with private gardens and a shared home zone space. The former garage site is surrounded by existing housing; our solution avoids overlooking through the careful placement of homes and adopts a bold roof solution to merge with the surrounding context.
Construction will commence shortly on this and other housing schemes designed by the practice as part of the wider social housing procurement programme.
