Three Rivers District Council have approved plans for the thermal upgrade of the Grade 2 listed Greenfields Primary School at South Oxhey, Hertfordshire, replacing the existing roof with a new high performance system.
To retain the visual integrity of the fine concrete gutter detail that runs around the entire building perimeter, a design was developed that pushes the deepened layer of insulation back to the building’s thermal line and introduces a new pre-fabricated edge detail. The design strategy returns the building to its originally intended appearance as published in the 1952 edition of the Architects’ Journal. Concrete will be repainted white and replacement aluminium rainwater goods added.
Similar retrofit projects are being rolled out across the County with Black Architecture providing the initial design services, together with our Heritage Consultant, to secure sympathetic planning and listed building consents.
