Feasibility studies have been undertaken to test the potential for volumetric modular units to be procured to provide higher quality temporary accommodation for individuals and families in Lancashire.
The standard layout units are adapted from models typically used in student accommodation, allowing separate living and sleeping spaces to be delivered, rather than an open plan studio arrangement. Arranging the homes without a central access corridor enables dual aspect living to be provided and creates properties that have stronger links with both the public realm and the shared communal amenity space to the rear of the development.
The financial model identifies a fixed contract module price that is offset against the costs of funding local authority temporary accommodation in hotels and private hostels. In the longer term, the homes can return to general needs accommodation.
