The hottest day of the year was a clear indicator of why we were meeting up to find common, cost-effective solutions on how to implement a Net Zero Carbon strategy with our Housing Association clients.
The NZC workshop opened with a broad discussion to scope out the complex and sometimes contradictory issues that affect how new affordable homes are delivered. The challenges between capital and operational budgets and how wider stakeholder groups can be brought into the discussions. As part of the session Black presented a series of case studies which contrasted the policy differences which had influenced our work under the London Plan to that within Hertfordshire which required designers and clients to take the lead.
A scheme currently being considered by Dacorum planners achieves the anticipated Future Homes Standard with a 75% carbon reduction identified. It is vital for this to become the standard, rather than the exception moving forwards.
