Thanet District Council has now consented the second phase of redevelopment plans the British Heart Foundation at Margate High Street. This portion of the scheme delivers six additional split level apartments at roof level.
The proposals that were developed by Black Architecture in collaboration with the planning consultant Coldrife and adopted a hybrid application approach that was agreed with officers at the local planning authority. Phase 1 was consented through a change of use submission to establish the principle of residential use, whilst phase 2 adopted a prior approval route. Both elements were scrutinised at committee before receiving unanimous support from members.
The new apartments tuck into the lozenge shaped plan of the existing concrete frame, creating a series of dual aspect homes which benefit from a mix of high street, courtyard and longer distance sea views.
