Black Architecture have been commissioned by Soho Housing Association to undertake a series of feasibility studies on existing building stock held across Soho and the wider London borough of Westminster.
The practice have teamed up with a project manager, cost and planning consultants, and specialist property advisors to provide a comprehensive service to the client. Following a day spent touring the sites and opening up underused rooms, a set of concept proposals have been developed that optimise the spaces. The uses range from increasing the social rent offer for the housing association to providing bespoke spaces for the creative industries in the heat of London’s media and emerging arts district.
Next steps will focus on assessing legal constraints and testing viability before entering discussions with the local planning authority. The rich character of the spaces offers great potential, an opportunity we are all seeking to unlock.
