Marchmont Fields in Hemel Hempstead received consent from the planning committee, allowing the scheme to progress towards construction following a three-year design development that spanned over the Covid lockdown.
Black designed the low carbon residential project in collaboration with the sustainability consultant to achieve a 75% CO2 reduction through a fabric first approach that is supplemented with MVHR and ASHP systems. A range of family houses, wheelchair adapted homes and flats are included in the mix, with new public open space linked into the local footpath network. The layout responds to the prevailing Radburn pattern of development, addressing historic shortcomings through the introduction of a shared surface Woonerf at the centre of the scheme.
10% Biodiversity Net Gain is achieved through a mix of on-site improvements across this greenfield plot and improvements to open areas across the Grovehill Estate in response to the Neighbourhood Plan.
